Curriculum

At Fairfield, our curriculum is based on nine core principles that reflect our unwavering commitment to excellence, equity, and ambition and powerful knowledge for every pupil. Designed to be inclusive, broad, and deeply enriching, the Fairfield Curriculum ensures that all learners—, regardless of background or starting point—, access a rich tapestry of knowledge, skills, and experiences.

  1. Inclusive and Ambitious Curriculum – the Fairfield curriculum is an entitlement for all pupils, including disadvantaged pupils and pupils with SEND, that does not limit high expectations and ambition.

  2. Broad and Balanced – the Fairfield curriculum consists of a broad range of KS3 and KS4 subjects for all pupils that is more ambitious in breadth and depth than the national curriculum.

  3. Diverse – the Fairfield curriculum reflects our diverse school community, ensuring a wide range of voices, literature and knowledge is represented and celebrated.

  4. Powerful Knowledge – the Fairfield curriculum provides all pupils with deep, fluent, powerful knowledge that is effectively sequenced and coherent ensuring they receive the cultural capital they need to succeed in life.

  5. Literacy – the Fairfield curriculum is embedded with high-quality texts, a broad vocabulary and opportunities for academic talk to ensure that all pupils can read, write and speak with expertise.

  6. Inclusive, Expert Teaching – the Fairfield curriculum is delivered with inclusive, expert teaching that requires all pupils to think hard, supported by appropriate adaptations, support and interventions.

  7. Effective Assessment – the Fairfield curriculum is designed with effective assessment against ambitious curriculum end-points, providing a clear understanding of achievement and what is needed for all pupils to improve.

  8. Personal Development – the Fairfield curriculum supports pupils’ personal development, as well as academic progress, within the academic curriculum, the personal development curriculum and their entire school experience.

  9. Future Learning Skills – the Fairfield curriculum ensures that pupils will develop their digital literacy, mathematical skills and understanding of how to learn independently to support them in their future learning.
